Lisa Marie Presley tunes in to her roots with ‘Storm & Grace’

                                The L.A Times

.....“Storm & Grace” gives it right back. First single “You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet” is a casual statement of defiance, a tough little saunter of a song in which a spiteful Presley talks about bucking the system. Later, the brushed rhythms and echoing chimes of “So Long” seem to emerge from a cemetery fog, with Presley, just above a whisper, telling off “fair-weather friends” and churches that “don’t have a soul.”

Ask Presley, who once spoke openly and favorably of the Church of Scientology, for more details on her lyrics, and she’ll keep things vague. The songs, and particularly the first single, she says, are “about finding out what your mother or your parents or your counselor or your therapist or your teacher or your priest really think about you, and finding out they [don’t think highly] of you, actually.” Her words, however, were a bit more colorful.....

Lisa Marie Presley: Finding her state of grace (+video)

                     NEW ZEALAND HERALD

....That awkward moment comes in the early minutes of the interview, which is part of her campaign for her new album Storm & Grace - it's her third album following 2003's To Whom it May Concern and 2005's Now What, and it just might be the one to get her taken seriously as a singer-songwriter.

It's about the second song on the album, You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet. The track has already lit up parts of the American media, led by Village Voice editor-in-chief Tony Ortega, who has cited its lyrics as evidence that Presley has turned her back on the Church of Scientology, which she has long been a member of - she met first husband Danny Keough, the father of her first two children, in the mid-80s at the Los Angeles Celebrity Scientology Centre.

Ortega says Presley's lyrics ("You can think that I'm evil and I'm off the rails ... If I don't get with your system then I'm sure to fail ..I'm a bit transgressive and suppressive as well ... Am I a disruption to your corruption?") use the church's own terminology like "suppressive" in what he interprets as a kiss-off to the institution.

So is it?.....

Lisa Marie Presley on 'American Idol'..

Camera panned the audience showing Priscilla Presley, her mother, and boyfriend in the audience.

LMP was OK, but did not connect with the audience. She looked very uncomfortable singing in front of a large audience.

Lisa Marie Presley Working In East Sussex Fish And Chip Van?

Lisa Marie Presley is apparently working in a fish and chip van in East Sussex.

The star, whose late father is rock icon Elvis Presley, is thought to have immersed herself into local life since moving into a £9 million countryside property with guitarist husband Michael Lockwood.

Lisa Marie Presley (WENN)

Kim and Justin Scales, who run the business, told the Sussex Courier: "She likes to see how we live and experience it.

"We were laughing because the customers didn't know it was her. She really enjoyed it."

Kim added: "Her rich neighbours are confused that she wants to come to the pub. If they go out, they go to fine dining restaurants but Lisa and her husband say they don't know what they are missing.

"When she is in the pub people treat her normally. It's not a big deal, everyone has got used to her. She's really friendly."

We want to get served by a Presley!

Lisa Marie Presley breaks from the past with her new CD, Storm and Grace

If you think you know Lisa Marie Presley, then think again.

The 44-year-old singer, who appears at Casino Rama on Nov. 15, has spent most of her life in the shadow of famous men like her father (Elvis, of course) and ex-husbands like Michael Jackson and Nicolas Cage.

“I know that’s how people have always looked at me,” she says on the phone from California, speaking in a husky voice that has a definite don’t-mess-with-me edge to it. “To tell you the truth, it’s how I used to look at myself and that was not a healthy thing to do, but it was something I was just born into.”

But, as with any problem, the first step is admitting there is a problem and Presley does that head on in her new CD, Storm and Grace.

On one cut called “Sticks and Stones” she even has the voices of the world outside her saying “Too bad she ain’t just like her daddy/Oh what a shame/She got no talent of her own/It’s just her name.”

And the rest of the songs on the album (which one critic called “The best thing any Presley has done since ‘Suspicious Minds,’”) show a woman who isn’t any daddy’s little girl or any superstar’s doting wife.

Her earlier albums were successful enough, in a kind of Sheryl Crow-wannabe sort of way, but truth be told they had nothing to say.

No one could level that accusation at Storm and Grace, which is full of songs about breaking old ties, ending past relationships and starting from scratch, which is what Presley has been doing with her life.

Two years ago, she moved to England with her husband, Michael Lockwood, and their twin daughters, leaving everything behind.

At the time, tabloids suggested Presley was suffering from a breakdown or leaving show business forever, but nothing could be further from the truth.

“I wasn’t breaking down,” she laughs, a bit bitterly. “I was breaking through. I just suddenly realized I had to leave the country and everyone surrounding me, and just get some space.”

Some of the changes were clearly professional, leaving her old label and the people she had made her earlier albums with, but the deeper things she had to disconnect from were all highly personal.

Presley had been a longtime member of the Church of Scientology, but media reports suggested she had broken off that association.

One of the lyrics (“So Long”) on her CD lashes out at organized religions and says, “These roads, they don’t lead to anything/These people they talk, they say nothing.”

But when asked if this refers to Scientology, Presley shuts the door. “Three things I don’t discuss: politics, ex-husbands and religion.”

She’s a lot more forthcoming, however, about the other things she chose to leave behind and break away from with her move to England.

“I’d built up certain relationships over the years with people I’d come to trust. These are people you put in charge of a lot of your life, turning decisions over to them.

“But then one day you turn around and discover that your world is suddenly toxic and these people are the ones facilitating all this toxicity, encouraging it to happen.”

Presley began by firing the people in question, “personal assistants who had been misrepresenting me to the world and vice versa,” but she soon felt she had to cut even deeper.

“I was just surrounded by too many people, which is easy to have happen when you’re a celebrity. Most of them have their own entourages and you often never get to see the real intention of the person underneath because of all the smoke they surround themselves with.

“Every time I see a celebrity walk in with a whole crapload of people around them, I want to say, ‘Watch out, those people are going to bury you alive one day.’”

The bottom line was, in Presley’s words, “I had to get rid of everyone.”

So she moved to a small British town, settled in and began to create some new songs.

“When I’m writing, I’m processing stuff. It’s kind of a therapeutic thing for me. I detach, I get lost in it, but I don’t wallow in it. I’m not into the whole ‘Woe is me, I am miserable’ school of songwriting.

“Then, once I’ve written a song, I’m done with it. Of course, I have to record it and perform it over and over again, but I never have to go as deep into the emotions that inspired the song once it’s down on paper.”

Presley is in the middle of a lengthy North American tour to promote Storm and Grace and she’s been gratified by the audience response so far.

“I don’t feel people are judging me. They’re just looking at all the roads I’ve gone down and watching my journey.

“And me? I’m always learning. When I’m learning, I’m living.”

Lisa Marie Presley and Scientology: Has She Left the Building?

In this never-before-seen interview, Lisa Marie Presley appears to describe her defection. A DAME exclusive.

    ___________________________

Uncovering the fact that I was surrounded by people who were not well-intended, for one. Confidants [who were] very, very intimately and closely involved with me and my life. And had been for years. Basically, it was a big sinister situation, where there was like, kind of intel and covert ops going on, and a whole effort to control me that I didn’t know about. Lots of people (were) involved in that in various ways. And I uncovered it and it was mind-blowing, and I just was done with people at that point…It was just too much for me. I have a pretty high tolerance, and I’ve seen a lot, but I was just not ready for all that.

It’s like uncovering [people] one by one, and then somebody that was holding it all together, and then they get exposed, and then I find out who’s behind that person, and that person was no good, and…it was pretty much like dominos. So I just thought, “Oh, my God, is everybody this dishonest and awful?” And I really had an obscured view of the world, so I needed to get far away to rediscover people and life and not have a bunch of people around me. You know how that happens in high-profile situations, where you get so many people around you that they obscure your reality on life and insulate you for their own benefit? That was what was happening. But really, it was a sinister situation. I’m not going to say specifically, but I’ve given you a pretty good scope.

So is Lisa Marie in or out? It’s a question she has yet to directly answer, and there appears to be no clear view of her Scientology status.

The church has no comment, “as it is our policy not to speak about individual parishioners,” spokesperson Linda Wieland said in an email. “You should address such questions to Ms. Presley’s representatives.” Presley’s 2012 tour publicist, Bobbie Gale, answered only that Lisa Marie “isn’t going to give a direct quote... many have tried and she refuses to answer.”

Lisa Marie Presley Fled Scientology?! New Interview Reveals Intriguing Insight!
2/22/2013

Lisa Marie Presley has long been one of the biggest proponents of Scientology! Heck, she even has her own blurb on the church's official website!

But now it seems the Storm & Grace singer is done! She recently moved from El Lay to the English countryside, and when asked why she says:

"Uncovering the fact that I was surrounded by people who were not well-intended, for one. Confidants very, very intimately and closely involved with me and my life. And had been for years. Basically, it was a big sinister situation, where there was like, kind of intel and covert ops going on, and a whole effort to control me that I didn’t know about…

You know how that happens in high-profile situations, where you get so many people around you that they obscure your reality on life and insulate you for their own benefit? That was what was happening. But really, it was a sinister situation. I’m not going to say specifically, but I’ve given you a pretty good scope."

Though she dances around saying it outright, as have many who have left the church, it certainly sounds like she's describing Scientology!

Or at least what we've heard about it!

Lisa Marie Presley Shuns Scientology to Raise Money for Real Causes

Lisa Marie Presley is a name you hear in Memphis quite a lot. Tonight (Saturday) she’s performing at an outdoor venue right at the same the massive Blues Ball is taking place across town. Her show’s ticket price was cut from $500 to $300– and the reason given wasn’t that sales were slow but because LMP “wanted more people to be able to afford it.” Whatever.
More imporantly, the event tonight is significant because it’s not for anything to do with Scientology. “She’s out,” a local music insider  confirmed to last night. The concert at the Levitt Shell is free because it’s the place where Elvis Presley got his start in the 1950s. But afterward comes the Presley fundraiser at Graceland with a tour, a Q&A, and a photo session. That’s what the $300 buys. “A percentage” of the money goes to WorldVision, dubbed LMP’s official charity partner of this tour.
And no, WorldVision has nothing to do with Scientology, Barbara Walters’s new approved cult. They bill themselves as “an Evangelical Christian Humanitarian aid, development, and advocacy organisation dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice.”
