Katie Holmes to make Broadway debut after divorce from Tom Cruise

Following a high-profile divorce, star revives her career and says she's just an ordinary woman

Four months after abruptly divorcing Tom Cruise in one of the most talked-about breakups in the history of American showbusiness, Katie Holmes is making her debut on Broadway in New York, in a show expected to be one of the hottest tickets of the winter, not least due to her presence on stage.

Holmes is starring in a comedy focusing on family relationships in the mid-west where she grew up.

The career of the former Dawson's Creek actress floundered during her marriage and, since moving to New York with her daughter Suri, Holmes has kept a relatively low profile. In an interview with the New York Times last week, Holmes stressed the normality of her life as a working New York actress who rides the subway, takes her daughter to school and shops unaccompanied in the supermarket below her Chelsea apartment block.

Appearing on Broadway will return her to the public eye. But Holmes also appears to have been attracted to a script that allowed her to reflect on a tumultuous period of her life. Dead Accounts follows the story of a young woman reconnecting with the Catholic, family values of her upbringing.

"It's a behavioural code," Holmes told the New York Times. "Innocent values … Do these values still work for me? Do they still make sense? I've asked myself those questions for years." She continued: "I have these moments where what's going on in my life is unbelievable, and you have to tell everyone to figure out how to respond. My siblings and I are always on the phone saying: 'Oh my God, what do you think? What does Mom think? What does Dad think?' And then you act accordingly."

The actress, who, like the rest of downtown New York, lost her power supply in the recent storm, stressed her new down-to-earth lifestyle, claiming she's drinking boxed wine. "It's good. And it's a lot easier to open." Such normality is at odds with accounts of her life with Cruise. Vanity Fair reported on the extensive Scientology-orchestrated selection process that prospective girlfriends undergo, the prenuptial agreement that Holmes signed, as well as her father's concern about keeping his daughter from Scientology's clutches.

After Holmes's expertly crafted split from Cruise, Scientology was accused of placing her under surveillance. Holmes appeared on the cover of Elle magazine in an expertly timed interview. "I'm starting to come into my own," she said. "It's like a new phase."

As the Hollywood Reporter's Janice Min noted: "The whole narrative on Katie Holmes was, 'She's been brainwashed and lobotomised. She's a zombie for Scientology.' That's what made this whole saga breathtaking … this is the heroine of the moment."

Under the barrage of negative publicity, Cruise agreed to terms of divorce in days, and the actress was freed to establish herself as an independent entity. She was recently photographed wearing a "Free Katie" T-shirt that Dawson's Creek fans wore during her marriage.

"I still think of myself as midwestern," said Holmes, 33. The New York Times noted she arrived for her interview without any trappings of celebrity: no assistant, no makeup, no jewellery.

In an interview with Women's Wear Daily, she outlined her new identity as an aspirational everywoman – returning to the theatre, co-writing a film about single motherhood, posing for the Estée Lauder cosmetics brand Bobbi Brown.

"The girl next door has built a career," said Maureen Case at Estée Lauder. "She has taken the bull by the horns and moved forward." The publicity drew attention to her fashion line, Holmes & Yang, that she presented in September. Fashion reviewers were broadly friendly.

Last week Holmes said she was uncomfortable with the idea that theatregoers might buy tickets to her play to experience her celebrity, not necessarily her acting.

Dead Accounts, which opens on 27 November, is still in previews, but Holmes's performance has already drawn applause on several occasions – notably when a telephone being used in one scene broke, and she deftly fixed it without skipping a beat.

"I have a hard time sleeping because I think about how serious this all is," she said of the expectation surrounding the production. "I think about the cost of tickets. I think to myself: 'You better do a good job. People are paying a lot of money.' You want to know your stuff."

It Looks Like Katie Holmes Has Reached The Final Steps Of Cult-Recovery

Read more: http://crushable.com/entertainment/katie-holmes-scientology-dawsons-cree-suri-cruise-jimmy-fallon-558/#ixzz2CQ0oiP3A

Katie Holmes gave her first post-divorce  TV interview on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night, minus any residual glassy-eyed looks or Stepford Wife PR stories, which leads me to believe she’s reaching the final stages of her cult-recovery process.  You know, because the six minutes I spent Googling “escaping from a creepy cult” now makes me an expert on Scientology PTSD.  Katie seems to be somewhere between the “accomodation/acceptance” phase and the “re-involvement in society” phase.  Either way, it’s just nice to see a little life in her eyes and the resurrection of the Joey Potter sweater.

When asked about a possible Dawson’s Creek reunion, she seemed to be really open to it:

“I love everyone from the show and we have kind of talked about it here and there, but what do you do? Maybe we’ll go on a vacation, that will be fun… and just film it!”

Helping her along through her break from Scientology, Katie is starring on Broadway again. She sings!  She dances!  She eats pizza!  During rehearsals for the show, Dead Accounts, Katie was busted eating some pizza that was meant to be a prop in the show.  She laughed it off by defending herself:

“We didn’t have an audience yet!”

She was very jovial and even kind of delightful throughout the entire segment, which you can watch here.

Throughout the past five or six years, Katie Holmes has made her rounds on the talk show promotional circuit few and far between.  Because she hasn’t had a whole lot to promote.  Because until earlier this summer, Katie Holmes was a robot.  The fact that she’s moved along so quickly in her recovery leads me to believe that she pretty much always knew deep down that Scientology, like lots of organized religions tend to be, is total bullshit.  Weird, alien-worshipping bullshit.

Obviously Jimmy Fallon isn’t the talk show to appear on if you’re planning on discussing serious subjects related to your mental and emotional well-being, so I can only hope that Oprah will get her to spill her guts on a sunny afternoon in a vineyard sitting on wicker furniture.  There’s no doubt that Katie’s divorce settlement involves one hell of a gag order, but if anyone can find a way around that, Oprah can.

According to factnet.org, post-Scientology behavior can be pretty fucking crazy so if you want to become a healthy member of secular society you should try and follow these suggestions:

1.) Avoid judgmental people and groups.  This means Katie Holmes would have to leave Hollywood entirely, and you know Suri ain’t having that at all.

2.) Seek out rational, mature adults.  While this would mean avoiding Hollywood people entirely, I suggest anyone who isn’t Kirstie Alley, John Travolta, Kelly Preston, Will and Jada Smith, Leah Remini, etc.  Because they are more about Xenu and less about rationality.

3.) Cultivate humor.  Jimmy Fallon appearance?  Check.

4.) Look for the goodness in people.  See number 2 for list of people to avoid.

5.) Try to learn to forgive.  Oprah will probably have a better handle on this than I do.  Because I make it a point to neither forgive OR forget.

6.) Reclaim your right to self-reflect.  Shoe-shopping and restaurant-hopping with Suri?  Check and check.

7.) Get involved in projects or tasks.  Make a movie!  Record a Christmas album!  Do a TV cameo or two!

8.) Resurrect your humanity.  You and Suri can wear matching designer galoshes and rubber gloves and help “Restore the Shore”?

9.) Link up with other ex-Scientologist support groups.  See number 2 for the list of no-nos.

Tom Cruise Reunites With Daughter Suri Cruise for Thanksgiving After Three Months

It's a wonderful Thanksgiving for Tom Cruise since his daughter together with Katie Holmes, Suri Cruise, joined him and his adopted children, Connor Cruise and Isabella Cruise, in England. The six-year-old girl reportedly jetted off to London on Tuesday, November 20. It's their first reunion since August.

"Suri left Tuesday and will return Sunday to return to school on Monday," a source close to Katie told The Huffington Post. "Tom and Katie agreed to this weeks ago." The "Rock of Ages" actor is now in England to film "All You Need Is Kill", a sci-fi thriller movie, which is based on a Japanese novel with the same title. The movie is scheduled to be released on March 14, 2014.

Katie, meanwhile, left New York on Thursday, November 22 to celebrate Thansgiving with her family in Ohio. "We have Thursday off, so I'm going to have a chance to go home with my family," the "Batman Begins" actress told Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan of morning TV talkshow "Live! with Kelly and Michael".

"My sister makes a really good sausage stuffing and my mom makes a great turkey," she gushed. She then explained her family's Thanksgiving tradition, "Many years ago, my dad started this tradition where we all do this run in the local park. It's a three mile run called the Turkey Trot. There's even a prize, which I haven't won yet. But it's really fun."

Tom and Katie swapped vows on November 18, 2006 in a luxurious Scientology wedding ceremony at the 15th-century Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano, Italy. However, on June 29, this year, the former "Dawson's Creek" actress filed for divorce. On July 9, they are officially divorced. Suri has been living in New York with Katie since the couple split.

KATIE HOLMES SPLIT KICKS OFF CULT EXIT

KATIE Holmes has triggered an exodus from the Church of Scientology by divorcing celebrity devotee Tom Cruise.

Since their split, the controversial cult has been rocked by a string of resignations.

And it is about to come under attack in a book by Jenna Miscavige, niece of Scientology leader David Miscavige, who was best man at the celebrity couple’s wedding.

Batman Begins actress Katie, 33, has never spoken out against the church, which teaches that we are all descended from aliens.

But part of her divorce settlement with Cruise, 50, will allow their daughter Suri, six, to choose her own religion when she is old enough.

An explosive and potentially damaging exposé of the religion is expected in Miscavige’s book Beyond Belief: My Secret Life Inside Scientology And My Harrowing Escape.

One ex church member, who asked not to be named, said: “This woman spent most of her life at the side of the current leader and hundreds of hours with Cruise and other household names.

“She knows every secret worth knowing and where every skeleton in the church’s history is buried.”

Katie Holmes’ ‘career plans worry Cruise'

Katie Holmes' reported new career plans have allegedly annoyed Tom Cruise.

It was recently suggested the actress was considering re-training as a lawyer after famously divorcing Hollywood star Tom last year.

Katie won sole custody of their daughter Suri in the legal proceedings - which were finalised in less than two weeks.

There has been much speculation that the former couple differed on raising six-year-old Suri as a Scientologist, which is Tom's faith, and now Katie's new career plans are said to be angering her ex-husband as he thinks they shed a negative light on him. It's also thought that Katie's brushes with the controversial religion are one of the reasons she is considering a change of path.

"Katie's at a crossroads. After her [recent] Broadway show was pulled, she sat back and thought hard about what she wants to do with her life. She's a really intelligent woman, and while she loves acting, she wants to use her brain and the knowledge she's gleaned from her divorce to help others. I think this is all part of the post-divorce 'life-over' Katie's doing in a bid to step out of Tom's shadow," a source told British magazine Grazia.

"She also wants to write and direct movies. With her experience she could write a film based around a mother leaving Scientology.

"I'm sure Tom feels it's sending the message that she had to escape him, when he feels he was very democratic about the divorce," a friend of Katie's added to the publication.

However, the brunette beauty seems to be determined with her plans. She reportedly feels she can really help women who are in the same kind of position as her.

"Katie's saying she's read so many stories in the papers about women leaving Scientology and having to leave their children behind when they go that she wants to help," another friend continued.

Katie Holmes to tell all: 12 month contract over!

http://womansday.ninemsn.com.au/celebrityheadlines/8674824/katie-holmes-tells-all-12-month-contract-over

Tom Cruise’s closely guarded secrets are set to be laid bare by the woman who knows him best – his ex-wife, Katie Holmes. Tom’s obsession with Scientology, his three marriages and subsequent divorces, and even his sexuality have all been the subject of intense speculation for as long as he has been a superstar.

Now Woman’s Day can reveal Katie is preparing to blow the lid off all this and more in a $10 million book deal. A publishing insider from the company leading the bidding on her biography tells us the sure-fire bestseller has the working title Katie Holmes: Living A Lie – but can only speculate about what exactly will be revealed.

“The two biggest stories out there in Hollywood right now are Jennifer Aniston telling the story of how Brad Pitt left home for Angelina, and Katie Holmes giving us the warts-and-all truth of what Tom Cruise is really like in private, in the bedroom, and when he is with his Scientology friends at these secret get-togethers,” says James Alexander, who has brokered several multi-million dollar deals for tell-all books.

“Everyone wants to know if their relationship was a marriage of convenience, whether she was asked to sign a contract like the one Nicole Kidman allegedly signed, whether Tom is Suri’s real father, her experiences regarding Tom’s sexuality and why she suddenly snapped and fled with Suri.” With the first anniversary of their 2012 split looming, the time is almost ripe for Katie, 34, to finally open up about the most spectacular marriage fallout in recent Hollywood history. “The moment the 12-month confidentiality clause from their divorce proceedings is up, Katie can sign the deal and make it official and she’ll be $10 million richer,” says James.

Katie Holmes afraid she's being stalked by Scientologists?

Katie Holmes' security team are worried Scientologists are spying on her.

Photographers on the set of the actresses' latest film 'Miss Meadows' in Ohio were approached by a guard on Monday, who probed then on whether they were part of the Church of Scientology. According to the MailOnline the guard allegedly said Katie's security team had been told to 'keep our eyes open for anything suspicious and to report it.' Once the brunette beauty's six-strong security team was sure the photographers were not Scientologists they appeared relaxed and let the star to walk from the base camp to the movie set.

A photographer explained: 'When security knew we were only trying to take pictures it definitely seemed to make a difference to how she and seven-year-old Suri (Katie's daughter) are moving around. Katie was previously being ushered straight into a vehicle and we hardly saw her, but now she seems less anxious.'

Katie's spokeswomen has since denied her team have been on the lookout for Scientologists.

Katie was enlisted to the ranks of Scientology after marrying Tom Cruise - who she has seven-year-old daughter Suri, with - but it is believed religious tensions led to their divorce in 2012. The Church of Scientology was founded by American science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard who claimed that extra terrestrial beings were sent to planet Earth by intergalactic ruler Xenu, who blew up the aliens with hydrogen bombs. These aliens' souls then attached themselves to humans and caused problems that affect the happiness of individuals.

In case you didn't know.

TomKat Project hopes to play LA

By Nina Metz
Tribune reporter
, October 16, 2013

The legend of Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and their Scientology-approved, celebrity-fueled marriage made for one of the better shows of 2013.  Now “The TomKat Project” (which played at the New York International Fringe Festival this summer after an 18-week sold out run in Chicago earlier in the year) is headed to Hollywood next month. Writer-performer Brandon Ogborn and his Chicago-based cast are looking to raise $15,000 to fund the West Coast production.  If ever a bare-bones storefront show from Chicago deserved to make its mark in LA, this funny, biting satire of celebrity gone mad is it.  Those compelled to contribute can visit "TomKat"'s Kickstarter page. So far the cast is about a third of the way there and their Kickstarter deadline is next Wednesday.

Document: Holmes left Cruise to protect Suri from Scientology

                                                                      USA TODAY

Tom Cruise admitted in a court deposition that one reason ex-wife Katie Holmes gave for leaving him was to protect their daughter, Suri, from Scientology.

The Sept. 9 deposition comes as part of the actor's $50 million defamation lawsuit against Bauer Publishing Co., publisher of Life & Style and In Touch magazines, which Cruise accused of printing false cover stories in 2012 that claimed he "abandoned" Suri.

In the deposition, in which Cruise was questioned by the publishing company's lawyer, Elizabeth McNamara, Cruise said Holmes broke off their five-year marriage to protect 7-year-old Suri from Cruise's religion. The document was obtained by RadarOnline.

When asked if Holmes left him "in part to protect Suri from Scientology," he said the question and the statement were "offensive."

RELATED: Tom Cruise: 'I have in no way cut Suri out of my life'

"Like with any relationship, there are many different levels to it. You know, I, I find it very offensive. There is no need to protect my daughter from my religion," he said, before answering that he believes it's a "false statement."

But the lawyer harped on the question, asking, "And Ms. Holmes has never indicated in any way that was one of the reasons she left you? … To protect Suri from Scientology?"

Cruise replied, "Did she say that? That was one of the assertions, yes."

He said Suri is not currently practicing Scientology.

In the interview, Cruise also said his intense filming schedule is the reason he didn't see Suri for more than 100 days in the wake of his June 2012 divorce from Holmes. He said he talked to his daughter nearly every day on the phone.

"You have to work at it," he told the lawyer of talking with his child on the phone, which he conceded is not a good enough substitute for seeing her in person. But, he said, "I've gotten very good at it. I tell wonderful stories," he said. "I also find that, you know, Suri is a very happy child, and confident, and has a good sense of herself."

Cruise recently wrote in a court filing for the lawsuit that he has "in no way cut Suri out of my life."

The line of questioning in the deposition was extensive, covering his traveling, filming schedule and private jets.

Tom Cruise denies Katie Holmes' claim of scientology as factor in divorce

Tom Cruise has said that Katie Holmes never told him that scientology was a factor in their divorce.

The 'Top Gun' star told the lawyer of Bauer Publishing that it was just an assertion that Holmes left in order to protect their daughter from the religion, and that there are many other aspects to the divorce, People Magazine reported.

Cruise has filed a 50 million dollars lawsuit against the publishing house for their cover stories, which claimed that he "abandoned" his daughter Suri after splitting with the 'Batman Begins' star.

Katie Holmes says so much about Scientology without saying anything at all in ‘The Giver’

....The last two years have been fascinating for Holmes, as she deftly stays in the spotlight while rarely commenting on her personal life. Even using the word “Scientology” around her is taboo. (Just watch this recent “Today” show interview while she and Matt Lauer awkwardly dance around the topic.) That’s why her turn in “The Giver” is a brilliant move:.....
